Can I use any email address I want?

  • You may choose whether to use an email address you already have, or if you want to use the email address that BTH provides for you. Enter the email address you wish to use in the student portal. (If you entered an email address at studera.nu when you registered for a program / course, this is the address we use to contact you via email.)

Can I forward my email to another address?

  • Yes, you can. Do this via the student portal under the tab 'My data'.

How do I log in to BTH's mail?

What is my username and password?

  • Your username is your email address, for example: abcd12@student.bth.se
  • Your password is the same as you use for your student account.
Why does the login procedure differ from time to time? 
  • The login procedure will look a little different depending on which computer and which network you use. For example, if you use a student  computer at BTH and Internet Explorer the user account details you are logged in with will be used, and you will be automatically logged in to your email. If you are connected via BTH's network on a private computer, or if you use a browser other than IE, a pop-up window will appear. If you are on a network outside of BTH you will be directed to a web page to login.

How do I change my password?

  • To change your password use the student portal. This means that you have the same password for all student services at BTH. It may take about 15 minutes before the change takes effect.

I've lost the password to my email account!

Can I use an email client instead of a web browser?

  • Yes, you can. To see the settings for IMAP and POP, log in to your email, click on Options in the upper right corner - then See all options. There you will find a link to Settings for POP, IMAP, and SMTP access.

How do I get help with email features and settings?

  • For questions about the settings and features for email and other services from Microsoft - see http://help.outlook.com/ Link to external website, opens in new window
    The student helpdesk at BTH can help you if you have problems logging in to your email, but is unable to administer other Microsoft services.

If I use Office 365, will Microsoft own my email?

  • No, with regard to the email service BTH has full control over the content. This does not apply to other Microsoft services such as SkyDrive, Spaces and Messenger, where as a student you need to accept Microsoft's service contract.

What happens to my email address when I leave BTH?

  • Your student account and your email account will remain for three semesters after the last course registration or other study activity at BTH. Then it is removed and all emails, documents, photos and other data are removed too. Therefore, be sure to save your data in a safe place when you leave BTH.
